Many people may not be aware of this issue, so here is a quick and short overview of the subject matter. It is something that makes everyone’s life more expensive, no matter whether you live in Estonia or New-Zealand, and certainly not only a small additional cost for those who use sea freight for the transportation of their goods.

What is IMO 2020?

International Maritime Orgnaisation (IMO) has decided that from January 1, 2020, sea contamination in international waters must be reduced. The maritime sector must lower sulphur emission by more than 80% by using low-sulphur fuels. It is the biggest reduction of sulphur in the transportation industry taking place at one time.
